Admission Essay Writing Help, Ideas, Topics, Examples

Admission Essay Writing Help, Ideas, Topics, Examples Additionally, my attendance would allow the Political Science department to make a more accurate determination on how well I would fit in to the program than from solely my graduate school application. My interest in attending the University of Rochester in particular, relates to my first semester at OU and the opportunity to take an introductory course in statistics with the now retired Dr. Larry Miller. Through the combination of a genuine appreciation and knack for statistics and with his encouragement, I proceeded to take his advanced statistics class as well as the first graduate level statistics course at OU. I continued my statistical training by completing the second graduate statistics course on model comparisons with Dr. Roger Johnson, a Professor in the Psychology Department. To a casual onlooker, this question may appear inconsequential in its hypothetical nature, but as they say; you are what you eat. My inclination towards the varied is not contained to my food habitsâ€"it is a recurring theme throughout my life. I regularly switch from my mom’s house to my dad’s. I have a fifteen-year-old sister and a two-year-old brother. It’s a chance to add depth to something that is important to you and tell the admissions committee more about your background or goals. Test scores only tell part of your story, and we want to know more than just how well you work. Take a look at our college essay samplesto get an idea of what colleges are looking for in your essay. Our vision is to be the company that best recognizes and serves the needs of international students around the world. I come from a small, economically depressed town in Northern Wisconson. Many people in this former mining town do not graduate high school and for them college is an idealistic concept, not a reality. Feelings of being trapped in a stagnant environment permeated my mind, and yet I knew I had to graduate high school; I had to get out. Although most of my friends and family did not understand my ambitions, I knew I wanted to make a difference and used their doubt as motivation to press through. Four days after I graduated high school, I joined the U.S. This award is given to the top undergraduate student with a demonstrated history of success in statistics. Professor Mitchell obtained a grant to take a class of students to Belgium in order to study the EU. Today I realize that this experience greatly influenced my professional ambition as well as my personal identity. While early on my professional ambitions were aimed towards the mental health field, later experiences have redirected me towards a career in academia. As an undergraduate, I was privileged to gain extensive research experience working in a research lab with Dr. Carol. Participating in such a large study from start to finish has validated my interest in academic research as a profession. The winter of my seventh grade year, my alcoholic mother entered a psychiatric unit for an attempted suicide. Mom survived, but I would never forget visiting her at the ward or the complete confusion I felt about her attempt to end her life. This fall I will embark on writing an additional honors thesis in political science. While the precise topic of my thesis is undecided, I am particularly interested in Mexico and its development towards a more democratic government. Minoring in Spanish, I have read various pieces of literature from Mexico and have come to respect Mexico and Latin American culture and society. I look forward to conducting this research as it will have a more qualitative tilt than my thesis in psychology, therefore granting an additional understanding of research methodology. The model comparison course was not only the most challenging course I have taken as an undergraduate, but the most important. As the sole undergraduate in the course and only college algebra under my belt, I felt quite intimidated. Yet, the rigors of the class compelled me to expand my thinking and learn to overcome any insecurities and deficits in my education. The effort paid off as I earned not only an ‘A’ in the course, but also won the T.O.P.S. award in statistics. This course revealed a direct correlation between what I had studied in the classroom with the real world. After spending several weeks studying the EU, its history and present movement towards integration, the class flew to Brussels where we met with officials and proceeded to learn firsthand how the EU functioned.

Suspense In The Cask of Amontillado - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 617 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/05/23 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: The Cask of Amontillado Essay Did you like this example? How does Poe create suspense in The Cask of Amontillado? In the story The Cask of Amontillado, the Poe creates a lot of suspense. This story was in an unnamed Italian city at a carnival when a man takes revenge on his friend who he thinks has done him wrong. He makes the reader think that they are going to get to the wine that Montresor wants to show Fortunato, but they never quite get there. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Suspense In The Cask of Amontillado" essay for you Create order The writer is always making it where you want to keep reading the book to see what is coming next. In this book the writer makes it easy to picture what is happening. There are many ways that Edgar Allen Poe uses suspense, foreshadowing, and imagery in The Cask of Amontillado. In the beginning of this story, Montresor asks Fortunato more than once, if he has somewhere that he needs to be. Fortunato finally answers with no and Montresor decides that it will be safe to follow through with his plan. It almost seems like he is giving Fortunato a chance to turn back or Montresor isnt wanting to kill Fortunato. He also takes advantage of Fortunato since he is very drunk and doesnt know exactly what is going on. This makes it a lot easier for Fortunato to go along with what Montresor asks him to do. When Montresor asks him more than once about his plans the reader can get the idea that something bad is going to happen. Montresor wants to make sure nobody is going to come looking for Fortunato and thatrs why Montresor keeps asking Fortunato if he has plans. This gives the reader the idea that Montresor is probably going to do something other than show Fortunato the wine. This makes the reader think that Montresor is going to hurt or kill Fortunato. Suspense is shown in the story by the characters being at a carnival where it is happy and cheerful and then it says theyre slowly going down into a dark, damp crypt. The reader gets the idea as they get deeper into the tunnels, something bad will eventually happen. Montresor keeps asking Fortanato about his health and seems to be acting like hers worried about him but he doesnt really care. Fortunato says he shall not die of a cough. This foreshadows an end to Fortunato. When Fortunato says he shall not die of a cough, this is true since he died from dehydration and starvation. Poe is able to create suspense throughout the whole story by talking about the tunnels and how damp and dark they are and the presence of death. The way he writes this story shows dark imagery. You can imagine Montresor taking Fortunato into the tunnels and how dark it is. The reader can imagine Montresor building the wall and even how drunk Fortunato is. Itrs amazing how many things you can imagine just by the way Poe wrote the story. Suspense was also shown when Montresor chained Fortunato and then slowly started building the wall to close him in where he couldnt get out. He would stop to look at him or listen to him and it made you wonder if he was dead yet. This book was constantly making you wonder what was going to happen next or if Fortunato was dead. This story also made the reader wonder if Montresor was just playing around and was going to let Fortunato go. The story made you wonder if they would ever get to the wine, but they never did. Itrs crazy what someone would do just to kill a person. The Cask of Amontillado was a weird story but a very interesting story to read.

Evaluation Of A Team Training Program - 1516 Words

If I were the coach of a softball team and had to formulate a pre-season, in-season, and post-season work out program I would start by making a list for each to stay on track. For pre-season, things I would bullet point would be; running, weight training, skill specific sessions and learning strategies. Next would be for in-season practices and this is going to be my maintenance phase. Last is the post-season part that is focusing on getting ready for the next year so I would bullet point these topics; weight training, running, skill specific practices, and leave room for participation in other sports as well. A pre-season training program should start 8-12 weeks prior to the first competition date (Powers 2012). This part of the season is to increase energy systems used in this particular sport to their maximum potential. With my softball team in a pre-season session, I would start with weight training and running to increase each individual player’s strength and endurance. S trength and endurance training should be done on alternating days to optimize strength gains but can be done together depending on what the coach is trying to accomplish. According to Powers, if these two types of training are done together, there may be a lower gain in strength than with only strength training itself. Things that I would like to do for endurance with softball players would be home to outfield sprints with walk back recoveries about 8 to 10 times with 3 sets of high knee drills for 20Show MoreRelatedCareer Development Plan Summary1639 Words   |  7 Pagesassume additional responsibilities but also initiate the hiring of additional team members. Roosevelt, Theodore (1858

Roosevelt, Theodore (1858-1919), 26th president of Essay the United States (1901-09), the first president to exploit the public dimensions of his office in an age of mass communications, a reform leader at home and a skilled diplomat abroad. In his lifetime Roosevelt became a personal model, particularly for the countrys youth, in a way that no public figure has matched. He was one of the most popular presidents in American history. The son of a wealthy, socially prominent merchant, Roosevelt was born in New York City on October 27, 1858. He was educated by private tutors and studied at Harvard University, graduating in 1880 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the most prestigious social clubs. Ill health marred his boyhood, and he suffered poor eyesight, attacks of asthma, and nervous digestion, before teenage body-building efforts transformed him into a strong, vigorous young man. After his fathers sudden death in 1878, Roosevelt forsook scientific ambitions, developed political interests, and became engaged to Alice Lee of Boston, whom he married in 1880. Alice Roosevelt died in 1884, just after the birth of their only child. Their daughter, also named Alice, as Alice Roosevelt Longworth became a well-known Washington personality in later years. In 1886 Roosevelt married Edith Carow of New York, who became his most valued adviser. They had a daughter and four sons, the oldest of whom, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., w as a decorated hero in the two world wars. Early Political Career After graduation from college, Roosevelt entered politics and abandoned the study of law when, as a Republican, he was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1881. He attracted immediate attention in the press with his upper-class background, colorful personality, and bold independence. In 1884, after serving three years in the Assembly, he left politics briefly, both from grief at the death of his wife and because he had alienated the reform wing of his party that year by supporting James G. Blaine for the presidency. Roosevelt spent the next two years ranching and hunting in the Dakota Territory, which began his identification with the Wild West. He continued to write histories, biographies, and magazine articles, producing more than a dozen books between 1880 and 1900. Back in politics in 1886, he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of New York City, campaigned for the national Republican ticket in 1888, and served as Civil Service commissioner in Washington, D. C., from 1889 to 1895. From 1895 to 1897, Roosevelt renewed political ties and enhanced his fame with his energetic, reform-minded service as New York Citys police commissioner. After campaigning for his partys national ticket again in 1896, he became assistant secretary of the navy and worked to expand and modernize the navy and get the United States into war with Spain over Cuba. War Hero and Vice President The Spanish-American War made Roosevelt a nationally known figure. His volunteer cavalry regiment, which included both cowboys and aristocrats like himself, was dubbed the Rough Riders and received extensive press coverage. Their charge at the Battle of San Juan Hill in Cuba (July 1898) was the most celebrated exploit of the war. Roosevelt became a popular hero overnight, and his favorite nickname for the rest of his life was the Colonel. He reaped a swift political reward when his partys New York boss, Senator Thomas C. Platt, chose him to run for governor in the face of scandals that threatened a Republican defeat. Enormous crowds greeted the candidate wherever he appeared in the 1898 campaign, and he carried his ticket to a narrow victory. Those crowds and similar outpourings when Roosevelt traveled west to a Rough Riders reunion in 1899 propelled him toward the Republican vice-presidential nomination as William McKinleys running mate in 1900. Also favo ring his nomination was Senator Platts desire to get him out of New York. Roosevelt was an activist, independent governor, who did not submit to the Republican organization; he responded to popular disquiet over big business and showed his own concern over conservation of natural resources. Gracefully although unwillingly submitting to the vice-presidential draft, Roosevelt demonstrated his energy and popularity again in the 1900 campaign, as he made whirlwind tours appealing to patriotic memories of the war. He had little to do as vice president, but his inactivity ended with McKinleys assassination in September 1901, when Roosevelt became the youngest president in U.S. history. Homeless What has been done to decrease the proble EssayWorld War I After his 1912 defeat, Roosevelt spent the last six years of his life in mounting frustration, first over Wilsons enactment of much of his reform program, then over American neutrality after the outbreak of World War I in 1914, and finally over his own failure to be allowed to raise a division to fight in France after the United States entered the war in 1917. Although he continued to advocate domestic reforms, he increasingly devoted himself to calling for a strong pro-Allied foreign policy and greater military preparedness. Roosevelt was gradually reconciled with his former party opponents, including Taft. He disbanded the Progressives in 1916 to back the Republican nominee against Wilson, and it seemed certain that he would be the partys candidate in 1920. His four sons all fought in World War I, and the death of the youngest, Quentin, in combat as an aviator in August 1918, was a heavy blow. Roosevelts health d eteriorated during the final years of his life, partly as a result of tropical fevers contracted on an expedition to the Amazon region of Brazil in 1914. He died at his home in Oyster Bay, New York, on January 6, 1919.

Tobacco Industry Essays - Summer, Tobacco, Habits, Smoking

Tobacco Industry Since my presentation was on Microsoft, I am going to try to analyze the Tobacco industry presentation. The Tobacco industry is an industry where they make tobacco products, then distribute it to stores, which then sell them to the consumer. Some tobacco manufactures are Camel, Marlboro (lights or reds? you choose), and Newport. Many people like to smoke cigarettes so they usually are the ones that purchase the tobacco. Because many people smoke tobacco, the Tobacco industry makes millions of profit off people who smoke. Tobacco has proven to cause cancer and other diseases. Tobacco is addicting, so many consumers have trouble quitting. Tobacco therefore, causes death. One way of marketing this deadly product is Advertising. Although advertising is very expensive, that expense will eventually be covered by future profits and more. Advertising targets all ages. Who ever can get their hands on cigarettes will be the consumer for a very long time. But isn't there an 18-age limit on people who can buy cigarettes? Yes, but then why are there so many teens hooked on cigarettes. Obviously there is no control over that too. Even thought the box is labeled and causes lung cancer and death, and is also addicting, people want to suet these tabacco companies. People want the government to regulate the sale of these cigarettes because too many minors are buying these cigarettes. This means that these minors will become hooked at an early age and then die sooner from the cigarettes. People also accuse some Tobacco companies of advertising to teenagers for example Joe Camel targets young adolescents. The Joe Camel dresses in baggie cool clothing, and hangs out with the crowd playing pool and smoking cigarettes called Camel. Another way the Tobacco tries to make their profit is by advertising in stores near schools and colleges where young people will stroll in during break time. Come on, business is business. You got make the profit. The Tobacco industry knows and everyone knows this product kills, its right on the package: This product is hazardous to your health? in other words, this product will turn your lungs black, cause birth defects, and will murder you, be careful. Well the company warns and the consumer chooses. The tobacco industry advertises to gain sales. It is the thing to do when you have a business. You want a toque, just go and buy. . But this product is only made to smoke or chew, not to clean the floor. Yeah we have the right to choose to smoke or not smoke but do children have the knowledge to choose between health and being cool with your friends? Maybe after their hooked and their lungs are black. The Industry is not helping when they advertise to teenagers. Labeling and warning about the dangers of the product is a must. And as adults, we make our own decisions. We choose whither we want to become addicted and later die at an early age. Young people do not. These people are still immature and do not think of long-term consequences. Regulating advertising is a must for kids minds and health. It will reduce the wants and coolness of smoking or chewing tobacco. The government should step in and control the situation at retail stores so that is harder for kids to get their hands on tobacco. For us adults, we are intelligent enough to know what can kill us. Business

A Draft U.S. Plan on Iraq Inspection Authorizes Force essays

A Draft U.S. Plan on Iraq Inspection Authorizes Force essays The Bush Administration has drafted a plan for inspections that provides for unrestricted access to all sited in Iraq, including Saddam Husseins presidential compounds and palaces. Also authorities the use of military force if Baghdad interferes with what the United States is going to do A U.S. official says if we find anything in what they give us that is not true, that is the trigger. The plan which American and British officials are presenting is to declare that Iraq is already violating its obligations to the United Nations. Iraq also needs to put the ownership on Saddam Hussein to comply. Saddam has a seven-day deadline to accept and declare all his weapons of mass destruction, and 23 more days to open site and provide documents to support this declaration. It appears that France, China and Russia who also have say in this are not supportive of force towards Iraq. They feel that military action should not be used. There was a provision of resolution in 1998 called 1154, which s tated that Iraq had to be notified before inspecting presidential sites and they were to have diplomats in their company when inspected. This new plan would override resolution 1154. I think we have to do something to find out what kind of mass destruction Iraq is capable of but I do not believe we should have to use military force and go to war. Too many people would be hurt and a lot of lives could be killed. I know that some how we need to stop Saddam Hussein but Im not sure how. I do not understand how anyone could be so sick and destructive as a man like Saddam Hussein. I hope the United States can find a way to prevent mass destruction and war because are world will be crushed if something of that notion happens. There is enough disease and death and sadness in life already without people risking others lives for no good reason. ...
